Theme
Redefining Business and Technology for STM and Scholarly Publishing is the theme of the 2011 Silverchair Executive Colloquium. Technology is transforming the publishing industry at an ever-accelerating rate, requiring publishers to become more agile in responding to trends and in developing new products that meet the evolving needs of their customers. As we enter the second decade of the millennium, new business models are emerging around personalization and personalized offers: content bundles or collections, metering, mobile applications, and targeted advertising. The environment for STM and scholarly publishing is transforming from a one-size-fits-all product offering to a service-oriented industry.
The 2011 Silverchair Executive Colloquium will explore these themes through engaging speakers, lively debate, and collegial discussion in an intimate setting.

Speakers
Confirmed speakers are listed below. Please check back periodically as we will be adding additional speakers in the coming weeks.
Clay Shirky
Clay Shirky divides his time between consulting, teaching, and writing on the social and economic effects of Internet technologies. His consulting practice is focused on the rise of decentralized technologies such as peer-to-peer, web services, and wireless networks that provide alternatives to the wired client/server infrastructure that characterizes the Web.
In addition to his consulting work, Clay holds joint appointments at New York University (NYU) as a Distinguished Writer in Residence at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute and as Assistant Arts Professor in the New Media focused graduate Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). His courses focus on the interrelated effects of social and technological network topology—how our networks
shape culture and vice versa.
Clay has written extensively about the Internet since 1996. His columns and writings have appeared in
Business 2.0, the
New York Times, the
Wall Street Journal, the
Harvard Business Review, and
Wired, as well as many other publications. He is the author of numerous books including

Cognitive Surplus: Creativity and Generosity in a Connected Age.
Attendees wishing for a preview might view one of Clay Shirky’s TED talks, including
Institutions vs. Collaboration (2005),
How Social Media Can Make History (2009), or
How Cognitive Surplus Will Change the World (2010).
